American Native

American Native is rooted in some old-fashioned ideas, celebrating the heritage of things made with heart and made by hand. We, brothers Bobby and Clayton Chamberlain, were raised with a tradition of hard work and self-made success. Both of us have training in design, but we sought a more hands-on approach to creating beautiful things. A memorable road trip through the South in the Fall of 2011 brought about a renewed sense of craft and a desire to make things the traditional way – by hand and heart with attention to quality. Leather and denim, the bricks and mortar of American style, are at the heart of what we utilized and love. My name is Laura. I'm a Midwest based artist and teacher who is inspired by finding joy in the everyday routine. I'm happiest when I'm digging in my garden, tinkering in my studio and surrounded by my amazing family. I take delight in utilizing materials that are reclaimed. My favorite fabric of choice is old wool sweaters, blankets and vintage clothing. For me, it is really in the little details that pull the work together. I love working with wool; the process of felting, sewing, and stitching brings me joy. I make pottery and ceramic pieces to honor the past, present, and the future. The contrast between the two clay bodies I use are immense, black and white, is one end of the spectrum to the other. I use strong and delicate color choices to pull a person into my objects. They can be drawn together with subtle glazes containing hints of color or deep tonal value. I like to focus on having that be the line that keeps all the pieces drawn together. I want to make things with a tangible and functional value. Things that people can hold and feel and use and love. Leather work started as a creative outlet and quickly became a passion. I like to create bags by making the main body from 1 large piece and molding or folding the leather back to itself resulting in a functional and minimalist bag with a defined profile or shape. I am Taylor. A graduate of the University of Arkansas (Go Hogs!!), employee at the infamous Hugo's on the Fayetteville Square, and Realtor for Keller Williams Market Pro Realty. When I'm not working or trying to save the planet, I am in my glass studio. Since I was a young child, I have been surrounded by artist. My mother recently taught me the art of Stained Glass, and now I am hooked! For two years, I have been creating as a hobby, but now I am ready for the world to see my work. I am inspired by nature and geometry. Moving to Northwest Arkansas has opened my eyes to the beauty of creation all around us. Replicating nature in art form is just too much fun. Math being my favorite study since a young child has influenced me to use simple shapes and complex formulas to create pieces aesthetically pleasing to all.
