I am a Oklahoma Potter, I create functional wheel thrown pottery with hand carved designs and patterns. Currently I am working with two different clay bodies, a red clay which is a local wild clay from North East Oklahoma that I hand dig and minimally process. The other clay I create with is a buff stoneware that after firing in the kiln is a nice off-white color. I really enjoy being able to create with personally harvested hand dug clay, it adds quiet a bit more work to the already long process of clay to functioning piece, but it is very gratifying to have my hands in the very first step to the very last step. I love to carve designs and patterns in my work a technique referred to as sgraffito. I find it very relaxing and so enjoyable to pick up a pot with no real idea and just let my hands go to work carving out a lovely freehand design.
