When Mary was 14 years old, she learned to knit from a woman named Martha whom she worked with during the summer. Martha told Mary stories about people in the old days who raised sheep for wool, where they would spin it and make their own clothing from the spun yarn. Mary was in awe and vowed that one day she would raise sheep, get a spinning wheel, and make socks for everyone she knew! Fast forward to 1994, she purchased her first spinning wheel kit and two ewe sheep named Looney and Tooney. Mary and a friend assembled the wheel so that she could understand how it worked, and then from a library book, she taught herself how to spin the wool into yarn. She also learned how to shear the sheep, clean and card the wool and eventually knit socks. After a bit of trial and error, Mary's Little Lambs Products was created in 1998. Now, in present day, Mary's flock has grown to about 28 sheep friends. She's created a business from her passion: raising sheep and creating fun, functional, warm, and cozy wool products exclusively from their wool. Mary also owns a hand cranked sock machine and a loom. She repurposes materials to create other items including rugs. Mary invites anyone out to her farm to come meet the heart and soul of the products, her flock of Merino-Romney cross sheep known as 'her flock of wooly friends'.
