My artwork is a quiet pursuit of noticing, and a daily practice of resting in, the space between realness and mystery, both in the world around me and within myself. I paint with watercolor for its ability to most readily capture that "in-between" space with loose expression and precise detail. It has become an extension of my hand and soul.
An emerging theme in my work is that of "home," especially how home represents nostalgia, a place of deep remembering that I believe we all carry. When we catch a glimpse of it, we know it immediately. It comes with a sense of joy mixed with sadness, and makes us catch our breath. Nostalgia invokes a feeling of coziness and fond memories, perhaps even of things we haven't personally experienced. It produces a longing for comfort and beauty, and a desire to find our true home.
My work leans heavily on craftsmanship and I am always exploring new methods and techniques. Behind each finished piece are many pages of sketches, studies, and failed attempts, as I strive to truly honor my subjects with the best of my ability.
